Two die in separate vehicle accidents in Arundel

July 17, 2008

Two people involved in separate vehicle accidents this month in Anne Arundel County have died of their injuries, police said yesterday.

Edward Lawrence Paquette, 58, of Severna Park died Tuesday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, and Eric Joseph Bond, 22, of Edgewater died Tuesday at Prince George's Hospital Center, police said.

Bond, of the 1200 block Pine Ave., was driving a white 2001 Ford pickup truck north on Shoreham Beach Road near Central Avenue in Edgewater just after 9 p.m. July 6 when he crossed the center line, crossed another road and overturned, police said.

The truck rolled over several times and hit a garage at a home in the 4100 block of Waterview Drive. A side of the garage collapsed, damaging two cars parked inside. Police blamed the accident on excessive speed.

Paquette was driving a 2004 Honda Accord north on Ritchie Highway near College Parkway in Arnold about 8:30 a.m. Monday when he lost control of the vehicle and drove over a concrete curb into the southbound lanes of the road. He struck a black 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck head-on, police said, and was taken to Shock Trauma.

The driver of the pickup truck, Gary Douglas Oaks, 41, of Pasadena, and three of the four child passengers in the truck were treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital. A fourth passenger was treated at Shock Trauma.

Police said they do not know why Paquette lost control, but they said there is no indication that speed or alcohol contributed.
