County site places second in nation

Anne Arundel County's Web site, www.aacounty.org, ranked No. 2 in the nation for outstanding use of technology in service to citizens, according to the Center for Digital Government.

"Our goal is to operate transparently, while providing the public information on important news and events around Anne Arundel County," County Executive John R. Leopold said. "We have a top-notch Department of Information Technology that works hard to make us the best source of information and electronic commerce for county residents and visitors alike."

Anne Arundel County was ranked second in counties with a population of 500,000 or more. Bill Ryan, county information technology officer, responded to questions that included more than 100 measurements and data points about online service delivery, infrastructure, architecture and governance models.

Anne Arundel County's website offers zoning and permit information, county news, web-viewing of the "Anne Arundel County Week in Review" program, and contact information for county departments and the County Council, among other features, as well as electronic commerce.

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
