Suspect arrested in armed robbery

A Glen Burnie man was arrested after trying to rob a liquor store and hitting the cashier in the head with a fake handgun, Anne Arundel County police said.

Tyreen Joseph Moore, 30, of the 100 block of Faywood Drive, entered Clauss' Liquors at 604 Crain Highway about 11:30 p.m. Thursday and pointed a gun at the cashier and customers, police said. He hit the cashier, police said, then fled on foot.

Police pulled the suspect over a short time later on Ritchie Highway. He was charged with attempted armed robbery, armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault and handgun violations. Officers also recovered a black BB CO2 handgun from the car.

Man with knife robs pedestrian in Severn

A man walking along a Severn street was robbed at knifepoint, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim said he was on Annapolis Road near Disney Road about 3 a.m. Saturday when a gray Volkswagen approached. The driver got out, pulled a knife and demanded money from the victim. He turned over his money, and the two began to struggle. The victim suffered abrasions to his stomach and forehead before the robber fled in his car.

Man seeks ride, robs driver, police say

A Shady Side man who got a ride home from a friend then robbed him at knifepoint, Anne Arundel County police said.

Kirk Byron Matthews, 37, of the 5900 block of Shady Side Road, appeared at the victim's home about 11 p.m. Thursday and asked for a ride home. The victim complied, and once there, Matthews pulled a 2- or 3-inch knife and demanded all the money in his pockets. The victim handed it over and sped away, police said.

Matthews is wanted on a warrant charging him with robbery, armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft.

Police say woman assaulted officer

An Odenton woman was arrested on multiple charges after officers found her slumped over the wheel in the middle of an Annapolis road, city police said.

Hiwot Hailegiorghis-Moffit, 33, the 100 block of Leeds Creek Circle was "snoring loudly" when police approached her Chevrolet Blazer, with the headlights on and ignition off, in the traveling portion of Rowe Boulevard near Melvin Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Friday, police said. Officers said that she smelled like alcohol and that they saw an open bottle of vodka on the front passenger seat.

After several attempts to wake her up, Hailegiorghis-Moffit awoke, became uncooperative and grabbed one officer and tried to pull him into the vehicle, police said. Officers then had to force her out of the truck, and she was charged with assault, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and traffic violations.

Man arrested over suspended license

A man who pulled into the Annapolis Police Department parking lot and parked there without coming inside was arrested when police saw that his license had been suspended for failure to pay child support, police said.

Officers inside the station on Taylor Avenue became suspicious when the green car parked there just before 4 a.m. Saturday. Benjamin Arthur Holmes Jr. of Baltimore said he was waiting for friend.

He was arrested, and his vehicle was towed.
