Support group for cancer patients

Upper Chesapeake Health has a new cancer support group for individuals who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer and their families.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and at 2 p.m. July 15 at Harford Memorial Hospital.

The program will be a discussion: "Communicating Concerns and Feelings" from the "I Can Cope" module.

Help for kids facing various addictions

The Father Martin's Ashley Children's Program is offered to children ages 7 to 12 who are faced or are facing addiction or alcoholism in their family.

The 2008 program is Rainbow of Hope. The program meets from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday at 800 Tydings Lane, Havre de Grace.

There is a small fee for the program, but scholarships are available for those in need.

Free seminar on joint pain July 15

Upper Chesapeake Health will hold a free seminar on joint pain with Dr. Brian DeMuth, board certified orthopedic surgeon, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 15 at Harford Memorial Hospital, Cafe 501.

Participants can learn how to have a better quality of life and hear discussions on different options for individuals suffering with joint pain.

Program available for cancer patients

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring a "Look Good, Feel Better" program for cancer patients at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The program also will be held at 5 p.m. July 14 at the Oncology Center at Riverside. To register, call 410-272-9224.

The program provides make-up and hair techniques to combat the effects of treatment.

Foundation elects five board members

Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation has announced the election of board members, effective immediately.

The board elected five new members: Allen J. Fair, William R. Minton, Steven J. Glock, Patrick L. Hess and Steven D. Linkous.

Fair is a realtor with BCH Real Estate in Havre de Grace. Minton is president and chief executive officer of Jarrettsville Builders Inc. Glock is a principal of Glock Smidt Engineering Inc. Hess is president and CEO of operations management at W.D.P.B. Inc., which operates seven Denny's Restaurant franchises in Maryland. Linkous is president/CEO of Harford Mutual Insurance Company.

Class offered on bariatric surgery

Upper Chesapeake Health is offering a free informational class on "Bariatric Surgery: New Course for Life" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harford Memorial Hospital.

Participants can learn whether this surgery is right for them from the staff of Upper Chesapeake Bariatric Surgery.

A support group for those who have had the surgery will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harford Memorial Hospital.
