Wheeler family expresses thanks

We are the family of Howard County Police Cpl. Scott A. Wheeler.

Scott died in the line of duty just over a year ago on June 18, 2007, after having been struck by a speeding motorist two days earlier on Route 32 while conducting speed enforcement.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Howard County Police Chief William J. McMahon, his dedicated staff and all the members of Howard County Police Department, as well as Howard County Executive Kenneth S. Ulman. They have given us the most exceptional support, comfort and kindness one could imagine.

From the very first most arduous days and nights at the hospital, Scott's colleagues stood vigil with us 24 hours a day, and throughout the entire year they have become as close to us as family members and friends.

This first year has been the most difficult and emotional time in our lives. The many tributes and honors awarded to Scott have truly been appreciated.

We are slowly healing and moving forward one day at a time with the continued help and thoughtfulness of our extended police family.

The Wheeler Family
