Fiddling in Woodstock

The Howard County Conservancy will present fiddler and hambone artist Steve Hickman in a performance of fiddle music, rhythmic slapping and dancing with fireflies, "Fiddlers and Fireflies," from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. July 17 at the Conservancy's Mount Pleasant Farm at 10520 Old Frederick Road, between Bethany Lane and Woodstock Road, in Woodstock.

Bring your own picnic and blanket or chairs. Admission is $5 a car. The performance will be held rain or shine.

World Breastfeeding Week celebrated

La Leche League of Eldersburg will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Sykesille Freedom Fire Department, 6680 Sykesville Road, in Sykesville.

Live music, a silent auction, a car seat inspection and food are planned.

Pick your own : Larriland Farm, a pick-your-own operation in Woodbine owned and operated by the Moore family since 1973, is offering opportunities to pick blueberries, tart and sweet cherries, red raspberries and beets through much of the summer.

The farm also has an on-site farm market, selling fruits and fudge. The farm is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Containers are provided. Dogs are not allowed. Larriland Farm is at 2415 Woodbine Road. 410-442-2605.

Teen space : The Glenwood Community Center's game room for teens is open 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The room, designed by teens, is for ages 12 and older. It includes a pool table, table tennis, bumper pool and a video game area with a big-screen TV. After-school activities and programs are planned. An identification card from the center is required. Summer : Mom's Connect of Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville offers opportunities for mothers, grandmothers and their children to share experiences and support each other. The group will meet for a "Summer in the Park" from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. every other Wednesday at Freedom Park in Sykesville. The theme for this week's meeting is "Patience, Kindness, Goodness"; for the meetings to be held July 23 and Aug. 6, "Faithfulness, Goodness, Self-Control." Preschool : The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will offer preschool classes to teach social skills, comprehension and the foundations of reading. An adult must accompany kids younger than 3. "Picture Bug Parade," a 30-minute summer program of music and stories for ages 2 to 5, is offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursdays.
