The Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks brings a touch of the West to Baltimore. As part of its Wednesday Lunch and Leisure series, the department hosts a Western hoedown. Bring food and listen to a live band play country music. There will be dancing and free giveaways.

First Friday comes early

Because of Fourth of July events, this week's First Friday outdoor festival in Bel Air will be held today. Get outdoors and listen to the band Spiral play modern classic rock and dance music. A beer and wine garden, local vendors and retailers will be featured. Some restaurants offer specials and stay open past normal hours.

Jazz in the park

Local jazz performer Marianne Matheny-Katz, also known as M2K, performs in Patterson Park. Originally from New York City, Matheny-Katz sang in coffeehouses to get her start and is compared to Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith. Bring dinner and a blanket and join her Tuesday for a unique jazz and blues experience sponsored by Mercy Medical Center.

Uptown arts

Celebrate the arts during the First Sunday Arts Festival in Annapolis. Experience dance, music, painting and artisanry while perusing the many vendor shops along West Street in the "Uptown District." The Inner West Street Association hopes to display some results of its $13 million renovations project, which aims to highlight arts and entertainment.
