A 7-year-old Woodstock girl was struck and killed yesterday afternoon by a van while riding her bicycle, according to Baltimore County police.

The accident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in front of the girl's house in the 10000 block of Davis Ave. near Old Court Road, police said, just east of the Baltimore County/Howard County line near Patapsco Valley State Park.

The girl, whose name was not released last night, was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The van was traveling along Davis Avenue when the girl on her bicycle came out of her driveway and into the street, according Cpl. Ben Yohe. The driver did not appear to have time to stop before the van struck the girl.

An initial investigation by police indicated that the driver of the van was not at fault. Yohe said police believe the driver of the van was not speeding.

After the accident, the girl was taken to Northwest Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to Yohe.
