* Peggy Collier is the new director of work-force planning at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. At GBMC, Collier develops a strategy and direction for staffing, assists with employee retention and develops work-force projections.

*Nurse Angela Keppley is St. Agnes Hospital's 2008 Nurse of the Year. She is a nurse at 5 North, a medical/surgical unit. She was chosen because of her nursing skills, her ability to meet patients' needs, and her compassion and dedication to St. Agnes Hospital's mission and vision.

*Two cardiologists have been elected to the Midatlantic Cardiovascular Foundation board of directors. Dr. Stephen Plantholt is a founding member of Midatlantic Cardiovascular Associates and practices general cardiology in the St. Agnes Hospital office, where he has served as chief of cardiology and president of the medical staff. Dr. Dean Vassar was also a founding member of Midatlantic Cardiovascular Associates, formed in 1995. He started practicing cardiology in 1977 and retired in 2007.

*Shawn Bediako, a University of Maryland, Baltimore assistant professor of psychology, recently received a one-year, $55,000 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to conduct a study of adults with sickle cell disease, a chronic genetic blood disorder. The study will assess how those adults are affected at work and in their attempts to obtain health care.

* Sinai Hospital received the Gold Performance Achievement Award by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Sinai and Johns Hopkins Hospital are the only hospitals to earn the award in Maryland.
