On June 14, 2008, JEANETTE HAENSSEL, age 100, passed away. Jeannette was known to all as "Granny". Granny had the most uplifting character and the unique gift of envisioning only the optimistic view of the world. A tireless volunteer, she dedicated over 55,000 volunteer hours to the Boca Raton Community Hospital's Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 58 years, Walter Haenssel, her beloved daughter Jenny Sawyer and her grandson Robert Sawyer. Granny is survived by her granddaughter Lisa Sawyer of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. During her husband's extensive career with B&O Railroad, Jeannette and Walter lived in both Baltimore and Cincinnati and traveled the country in their own private train car. They retired to Boca Raton in 1969. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at St. Joan of Arc Church, Boca Raton, followed by burial at Boca Raton Cemetery. Babione Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
