Laurel woman robbed outside supermarket

A customer at a Maryland City supermarket was wrestled to the ground and robbed of her purse, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim, 38, of Laurel said she had just stepped outside the Shoppers Food Warehouse in the Maryland City Shopping Center around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday when a man snatched her purse and fled on foot.

Security guard foils planned shooting

A private security officer recovered two guns and drugs after being tipped off that a group of young men planned to shoot someone, Annapolis police said.

A resident of Bens Drive told the officer around 9 p.m. Tuesday that the group planned to shoot her brother, police said. The group broke up and ran when the security officer approached, and one of the youths dropped a loaded .38 caliber handgun.

Another of the fleeing suspects, a 17-year-old from Copeland Street, was arrested and charged with trespassing.

Police who received a call that the original group had re-gathered on Bens Drive in a blue Mercury Marquis arrived to find the car abandoned, but another handgun, marijuana and crack cocaine had been left behind. The car's owner couldn't be contacted, so it was impounded.

Annapolis teen accused of robbery

An Annapolis teenager was arrested, accused of assaulting and robbing a Chesapeake Harbour man who knew him by his nickname, city police said.

The victim, 53, said he was walking on Pleasant Street near Clay Street around 11 p.m. Tuesday when the attacker approached, knocked him down from behind, and took money from his pockets while holding him down by the neck.

The victim told officers his assailant's name was "Poo," and police identified him as Ondrel Mayo, 19, of Monument Street. Mayo was found nearby and was identified by the victim, police said. He was arrested and charged with assault and robbery.
