$4,000 raised for July 4 committee

A weeklong carnival in Edgewood last month has earned nearly $4,000 for the Edgewood/Joppatowne Community Council Independence Day Planning Committee.

About 2,000 people attended the carnival, which ran eight days May 23-31 on the grounds of the American Legion Post #17 on Edgewood Road. Committee member Andre Alston provided a professional volunteer security team to the event, which went off without incident.

The funds earned will help defray the costs of the community's July 4th celebration, which includes a parade along Joppa Farm Road and the CeCe Winans Concert on July 5 at Mountain Christian Church.

The committee was organized to create local family entertainment events within the community.
