A 25-year-old East Baltimore man has been convicted of rape in a sexual assault that occurred in 1997, when he was 15.

A city jury convicted Tranell B. Dansbury of the 1600 block of North Broadway of second-degree rape, second-degree sex offense, three counts of second-degree assault and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense.

The attack occurred Nov. 18, 1997, when Dansbury forced an 18-year-old woman behind a brick wall in the 1400 block of E. Madison St. and raped her, according to the city state's attorney's office.

Police identified Dansbury through a DNA search nearly a decade later, in April 2007.

The conviction Thursday came after three days of testimony and four hours of jury deliberation. Dansbury faces a maximum of 70 years in prison when he is sentenced July 30.
