Library hosts the Teen Time Showcase

The Howard County Library will present its Teen Time Showcase. Teen Time is an after-school program for children in grades 4-8 at the east Columbia branch library.

The program includes help with homework, a snack, field trips, crafts, book talks and other presentations.

The showcase, which includes a buffet dinner, karaoke, a dee jay, dancing and caricature drawings of guests, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at the 50+ center of the east Columbia branch library, 6600 Cradlerock Way. Reservations are required.

Wrestling camp held at Oakland Mills High

The East Coast Champ Wrestling Camp is accepting registration for its summer camp, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23-27 at Oakland Mills High School.

The camp will teach fundamental technique with emphasis on chain or nonstop wrestling.

The cost is $150 for registration postmarked by June 16; $160 after that date. There is a $10 discount for families with two or more campers. Walk-ins are welcome, and should arrive at the school by 8:30 a.m.

The camp is directed by Coach Brad Howell of Oakland Mills; and Bruce Lindblad, Sidney Billups and Chris Williams of Atholton High School.

Knit in Public Day at Kings Contrivance

The Columbia Knitting Meetup Group will hold its Knit in Public Day, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the courtyard of the Kings Contrivance Village Center.

Those who want to participate should bring their knitting and a beach chair. Everyone is welcome.

'Little Shop of Horrors' presented

The Drama Learning Center's Teen Professional Company, Teaching Young Actors, or TYA, is presenting the musical Little Shop of Horrors at 2 p.m. today and Saturday and 7 p.m. today, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at the center, 9130-I Red Branch Road.

Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door, with a discount for groups of 10 or more people. Reservations are recommended. Scout troops and student groups receive a backstage tour and can participate in an autograph session after the show.

In partnership with Patapsco Middle School, the center will present Once Upon a Mattress, the fairy tale about the princess and the pea, at 3 p.m. today at Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City.

Tickets, available at the door, are $7.

Around Town

Birthday : The 40th birthday celebration of Oakland Mills, the second village to be established in Columbia, will be held June 27-29 at The Other Barn in the Oakland Mills Village Center. Interesting facts and trivia about Oakland Mills, or memorabilia that can be displayed during the birthday celebration are needed. Former residents, employees and volunteers are invited. A free family movie from 1968 will be shown at 7 p.m. June 27. An Oakland Mills Fest, with music, food and activities, is planned from noon to 3 p.m. June 28 in the courtyard, and a Disco Dance in the Loft will be held at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5. There will be a mini gathering of those involved in the life of the village between 1968 and 1978 at the Disco Dance in the Loft. Those who want to participate should call 410-381-6185. The Oakland Mills farmers' market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29, and street musicians will provide background music. Classes, therapies : The East Columbia 50+ Center is offering appointments for reflexology - deep foot massage - 5:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Mondays. The cost is $45 for an hour treatment. Appointments are also available between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Fridays.

*"Harmonize Exercise Class" meets 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. O.H. Laster, a personal fitness trainer, teaches "Stamina, Strength, Stretch and Synergy." The cost is $24 a month; no drop-ins.

*Pilates class, to improve strength, flexibility and coordination while reducing stress, meets noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays. The cost is $36 for six weeks. 410-313-7680.
