Enjoy a play, book sale, Japanese film

The Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, will present a re-enactment of the lives of two presidential couples who served during the "Roaring '20s" - Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge and their wives - from 11 a.m. to noon June 24.

The cost for the performance is $3. Registration is required.

A book sale and book hour are planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26, and staff members from the Central Library will suggest summer reading picks from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The 1996 Japanese film Shall We Dance? will be shown at 10 a.m. June 27. Discussion will be led by a film curator from the Library of Congress, and a catered Japanese lunch is planned after the screening.

Singer-songwriter performs at library

The Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will present a performance by Ka-Chi, a Nigerian-born singer-songwriter and Baltimore resident, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

An electrical engineer by training, he will perform original songs on acoustic guitar.

Registration is not required.

"Getting the Most From Your Garden," a program on selecting plants, using shrubs and perennials in arrangements and flower care by Master Gardener Renee Hawkins, will be offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Theater camp : Slayton House Camp of the Arts is accepting registration for its musical theater camp for children who have completed full-day kindergarten and those in first through seventh grades.

Senior Wii club : Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer a Wii Club for ages 55 and older, at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the Bain Center. Participants can improve hand-eye coordination and get some exercise while competing against their peers in the interactive video game. The first game is free. 410-313-7320.

Mah-jong : Those ages 18 or older are invited to Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center for mah-jong at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Admission is free. Participants are invited to bring a game and attend with a friend. 410-730-3987.

Draw, paint : Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a class for seniors, ages 55 and older, "You Can Draw and Paint," from 1:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursdays, starting this week, at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. Bring watercolors, acrylics, oils or pastels (or whatever materials you have). Direction and instruction will be offered to beginners and experienced painters. Legal services : Attorney Charles Jerome Ware will be at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 for the 60 Plus Wills and Legal Screening Program. Services offered include simple wills, powers of attorney, living wills, small estates and deed changes. The program is open to all Howard County residents, ages 60 and older. The program which is available on the third Wednesday of each month, is sponsored by the Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging.

Tips on college : The Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will sponsor "College Bound: First Year Experience," a program for youth ages 16-18, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 23. A representative from Howard Community College will share tips on study, time management and social skills that may be helpful in the freshman year at college.
