Ochoa: `best round' of year

June 07, 2008|By DON MARKUS

Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa of Mexico took a one-stroke lead over Lindsey Wright of Australia yesterday at the midpoint of the McDonald's LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace.

Ochoa shot a 7-under-par 65 for a two-round total of 10-under 134. It marks the lowest 36-hole score since the tournament came to Bulle Rock in 2005.

"My best round in the season," Ochoa said.

Ochoa also held at least a share of the lead at the Women's British Open and the Kraft Nabisco Championship after 36 holes, and she prevailed in both.

Lorie Kane of Canada was two strokes behind Ochoa going into the weekend.

Annika Sorenstam, who recently announced that she would retire from competitive golf after the 2008 season, shot a 4-under 68, leaving her four shots behind Ochoa and clearly in the hunt for her fourth LPGA Championship title.

"I think I'm in good shape," Sorenstam said.
