`Pacman' must keep his cool

Bill's Rant

June 03, 2008|By BILL ORDINE

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has placed Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones on the league's equivalent of double secret probation. But, of course, there's nothing secret about it.

Jones gets to participate in organized team activities, training camp and preseason games, but Goodell is withholding reinstatement for the regular season until Jones proves he can stay out of hot water. Considering Jones recently had that little problem of owing a Las Vegas casino $20,000, I'd say he was darn lucky to get this much leeway.

So here's the question: Can Jones be trusted not to touch the hot stove? He has been told it's hot. In fact, he knows it's hot because he has touched it before and has gotten burned. But can he keep from touching it again?
