Hospital's smoking restrictions return

Upper Chesapeake Health will return to its smoke-free policy tomorrow on its Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial Hospital campuses.

No tobacco use of any kind will be permitted on hospital property.

During recent construction, UCH has permitted smoking in designated areas outside the facilities. Those major projects are now nearly completed.

Diabetes group at senior center

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a diabetes support group at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Aberdeen Senior Center.

Cancer caregiver support available

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer an IDEAS Cancer Caregiver Support Group for people caring for loved ones who have cancer.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Relay for Life on Saturday, June 8

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Fallston will be held Saturday and June 8 at Fallston High School.

Relay for Life celebrates cancer survivors and memorializes those who died of the disease at an overnight event of teams of walkers, joggers or runners.

Information on bariatric surgery

Upper Chesapeake Health is offering a free informational class on "Bariatric Surgery: New Course for Life" at 5:30 p.m. June 10 at Harford Memorial Hospital.

A support group for those who have had the surgery will be held at 7 p.m. June 10 at Harford Memorial Hospital.

'Look Good' for cancer patients

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring a "Look Good, Feel Better" program for cancer patients at 6 p.m. June 10 at Center Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The program also will be held at 7 p.m. June 9 at the Oncology Center at Riverside. To register, call 410-272-9224.

The program provides makeup and hair techniques to combat the effects of treatment.

Free colorectal screenings set

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer free colorectal screenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 11 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Parking Lot M at McFaul and Tollgate roads.

Dr. Weitong Mu from Harford Gastroenterology Associates will perform the screening.

Drug prevention seminar planned

The coalition FACE-IT (Faith Activated Community Empowering Intervention Training) will hold the "Harford County Symposium: Drug Prevention, Intervention and Treatment" June 25 and 26 at C. Milton Wright High School, 1301 N. Fountain Green Road, Bel Air.

The symposium will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25 with the keynote address by Larry Magid on "MySpace Unraveled," and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 26 with guest speaker Stanton E. Samenow discussing "Inside the Criminal Mind -- Juvenile ... Adult ... Out of Character."

Workshops will be offered on various topics, including why offenders kill, people who hurt themselves, adolescent drug and alcohol use and new abuse substances.

YES (Youth Empowered to Succeed) leadership training for youths in seventh grade and up will also be held, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25.
