Defense to hold BRAC job fair

The Department of Defense is recruiting experienced people in various fields for federal jobs at Aberdeen Proving Ground as part of the BRAC realignment.

A BRAC job fair will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Harford Community College, Susquehanna Center, 401 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air.

Recruiters will be available to meet with applicants for positions as engineers (chemical, electrical, mechanical and computer), computer scientists, contract specialists, contract officers, management analysts, logisticians and program managers.

Independence Day activities planned

The Bel Air Independence Day Committee will hold its annual parade July 4, along with other daylong events around the town.

The deadline for entries in the parade is June 10. This year's theme is "A Salute to Those Who Serve Our Country."

Children ages 5 to 14 also can enter the Independence Day program cover contest. Designs should reflect the theme and cover an 8 1/2 -inch-by-11-inch area. Deadline for entries is tomorrow.

U.S. 1 cleaning project starts

The State Highway Administration has begun a $360,000 cleaning and painting project to improve the U.S. Route 1 (Conowingo Road) bridge over Octoraro Creek.

Weather permitting, the project should be completed in the fall. Work includes painting the bridge superstructure, the steel beams that support the road surface.

Most of the work will be performed under the bridge, with minimal interruption to motorists. Traffic will be guided by message signs, barriers, cones and drums.

No more funds for cat spay program

The Humane Society of Harford County has announced that it is out of funding for the Free Feline Fix, a new program aimed at controlling the county's surplus cat population.

The program provided a certificate good for one free feline spay or neuter, a rabies vaccination and one topical flea control application from a participating local veterinary office.
