Office of Planning to close today so it can move

The county Office of Planning will be closed from noon today until Monday morning to enable it to move to new quarters.

The office will be located in Suite 101 of the Jefferson Building, 105 W. Chesapeake Ave. in Towson. The office's phone numbers will remain the same.

Because of the move, the Planning Board has canceled a meeting scheduled for Thursday. The next board meeting will be June 19 in Hearing Room 102 of the Jefferson Building.

18 months imposed in child porn case

A 22-year-old Owings Mills man was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison after pleading guilty this week in Baltimore County Circuit Court to possessing and distributing child pornography.

Shawn J. Eisenstein of the first block of Strongwood Road was given a sentence Wednesday of five years, with 3 1/2 years suspended, to be followed by three years of supervised probation, according to court records.

He was arrested this year after state police said they intercepted his attempts in 2007 to download sexual images from the Internet.

GBMC renames its cancer center

Greater Baltimore Medical Center said yesterday it has renamed its cancer center the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at GBMC, honoring a couple who donated $2.6 million to the hospital's oncology program.

The institute is Maryland's largest community hospital-based cancer program, GBMC officials said.

The Bermans, who live in Florida, are former residents of Pikesville. They previously made gifts totaling $2.4 million to GBMC.

Israeli festival To be held Sunday

The Jewish Community Center will hold an Israeli festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Center, 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave.

Activities include Israeli-themed games and challenges, a virtual tour of Israel called "Walk the Land," and Israeli food, jewelry and crafts in an Israeli-style open-air market. Admission and attractions are free. In case of rain, events will move indoors.

Spring fair, market set at Hannah More

Hannah More School Parents' Association will hold a Spring Fair and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow on the school grounds at 12039 Reisterstown Road.

Stella Maris seeks Volunteer help

Stella Maris is seeking volunteers to help feed residents who cannot feed themselves.

Training will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 for those who can give at least three or four hours a week to the program. The deadline for registration for training is June 6. Information: 410-252-4500, Ext. 7315.
