Yankees update

Perhaps it was a bit premature to count out New York after another slow start. The Yankees have won five in a row, rallying from a 5-2 deficit yesterday to complete a sweep of the Seattle Mariners. They moved a half game ahead of the Orioles for fourth place in the American League East. Joba Chamberlain threw two scoreless innings Saturday night as he makes the transformation from reliever to starter. Shelley Duncan, up from the minors, has been getting regular playing time against left-handed pitching, so he could be in the starting lineup for the first two games of this series. The Yankees rebounded from Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Orioles in the Bronx to win the next two games, allowing only one run in the process. Alex Rodriguez came off the disabled list and homered twice in the series, and he was denied a third one by a blown call. Jason Giambi was batting .526 in his past six games before yesterday. Pettitte is 23-6 with a 3.77 ERA lifetime against the Orioles. Rasner and Kennedy took turns pitching well against them last week. Rasner scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings to earn a victory.
