Junior pitcher Shari Beavers went 3-for-3 and picked up the win as Fort Hill from Allegany County captured its first state championship with a 9-3 victory over Colonel Richardson in the Class 1A final in College Park yesterday.

Beavers had a double, triple, three runs scored and drove in a run.

Fort Hill scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back.

Class 2A

Easton 2, McDonough 1 -- Senior Ali Schmidt threw a three-hitter and Kris Durham provided the winning hit over the Rams of Charles County with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the third inning. It was the fourth state title for the Warriors (23-1) of Talbot County. Easton got a fine defensive play from left fielder Caroline Marvel to end a threat in the fifth inning, and Schmidt struck out Laura Borawski with two on and two out in the seventh inning to secure the win.
