Rays update

The second-place Rays were off yesterday after a road trip in which they went 3-3. Tonight marks the beginning of a season-long, 10-game homestand at Tropicana Field, where the Rays have won 12 of their past 13 games. Before Andy Sonnanstine was roughed up by the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, Tampa Bay starters had a 2.10 ERA in their previous 14 games. Rays pitchers have given up just one home run in the past 10 home games. Edwin Jackson, tomorrow's starter, has allowed just one earned run in his past three starts, spanning 20 1/3 innings. On offense, left fielder Carl Crawford has been scuffling, going 9-for-40 with no stolen bases over his past nine games. However, second baseman and leadoff hitter Akinori Iwamura has been a catalyst with hits in 17 of his past 18 games, raising his average from .202 to .275 since May 1. Rookie third baseman Evan Longoria is 9-for-24 over his past six games with three doubles, a homer and five RBIs.
