A Northeast Baltimore man has been arrested and charged with eight counts of arson that occurred over the past three years, police said.

Arrested yesterday at an undisclosed location in Baltimore County by members of the Baltimore Regional Warrant Apprehension Task Force and county police was John Paul Newcomb, 49, of the 3800 block of Pinewood Ave. in the Rosemont East neighborhood, police said.

Newcomb is charged with setting seven fires over three years in the Rosemont East community, including two on his own street. He is also charged with setting one fire in the county. Police knew of no motive for the fires.

Police said the investigation is continuing and that more charges are possible.

Surveillance film at a former Schmidt bakery in Baltimore County aided the arrest, police said.
