Man guilty in child porn case

May 23, 2008

A Howard County man who had previously been convicted on sexual child abuse charges pleaded guilty yesterday to possessing more than 5,000 images of child pornography, the Maryland U.S. attorney's office said.

Victor William Kunst Jr., 57, of Columbia, faces up to 20 years in federal prison and supervision for life when he is sentenced in U.S. District Court in Baltimore on July 24.

Federal prosecutors said investigators learned of the pornography in April 2006 when he bought a subscription to a child porn Internet site using his credit card. Authorities said they searched his home on Sept. 4 of last year and seized his computer, his password list for Web sites and hard drives that contained more than 5,000 still images of children engaged in sex acts and 200 movies with similar themes.

Prosecutors said that Kunst was convicted in Howard County Circuit Court on Nov. 22, 2002, for child sex abuse and was sentenced to three years in prison, all of it suspended. He is on Maryland's Sex Offender Registry.
