River Hill's Garcia wins scholarship

Leo Carelle Garcia, a senior at River Hill High School, is one of 20 students around the country to receive a Citigroup Academy of Finance Scholarship of $20,000, or $5,000 a year for four years, to be used for tuition, room, board and other educational expenses.

In addition to receiving the award, Garcia will be paired with a Citigroup mentor and given a summer internship at one of Citigroup's subsidiary companies in the United States or abroad.

As a student in the Academy of Finance, part of a national program of specialty classes, he has served as state president of DECA, a student organization focused on business and marketing. Garcia will attend Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, N.C., as an accounting major in the fall.

Thompson joins foundation board

Todd Thompson, chief technology officer and director of engineering and technology for Lockheed Martin Corp., has joined the board of directors of the Howard Community College Educational Foundation.

A founding member of the Lockheed Martin Information Architecture Board, the Columbia resident is an expert in using information technology to solve business problems for large enterprises.

Cantrell rejoins Columbia Bank

Sharon Cantrell has been hired by Columbia Bank as vice president of its recently formed Community Business Banking Division.

Formerly associate director of financial services for the nonprofit Finance Fund in Washington, Cantrell worked with Columbia Bank from 1988 through 1999 in a variety of positions, including senior credit officer.
