Doris E. Sobus, 59

Doris E. Sobus, a retired Baltimore County mathematics teacher, died of ovarian cancer Saturday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care. The Bel Air resident was 59.

Doris Elaine Gray was born in Baltimore and raised in Highlandtown. She was a 1966 graduate of Patterson High School and earned a bachelor's degree from what is now Towson University in 1970. She later earned a master's degree in education, also from Towson.

She began teaching in Baltimore public schools before moving to Boston in 1970. She returned to Baltimore in 1974 and took a teaching job at Pine Grove Middle School. She later taught at Loch Raven Senior High School and Eastern Vocational High School in Essex, from which she retired in 2005.

The longtime Bel Air resident enjoyed reading and sewing.

She was an elder and active committee member of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church, 10 Lexington Road, Bel Air, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, John L. Sobus, a retired Harford County public school educator; two sons, Micah J. Sobus of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Jon R. Sobus of Durham, N.C.; and two sisters, Barbara Clatchey of Middle River and Haralyn Kilmon of Montross, Va.
