Six-week childbirth course offered

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a six-week prepared childbirth course from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Weekend classes will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 31 and June 1.

The cost is $50 for couples delivering at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and $80 for those delivering elsewhere.

Relay for Life at Fallston High

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Fallston will be held June 7-8 at Fallston High School.

Relay for Life celebrates cancer survivors and memorializes those who lost their battle with the disease at an overnight event of teams of walkers, joggers or runners.

Two new doctors at Upper Chesapeake

Upper Chesapeake Health has welcomed two new staff members.

Dr. Kunda Biswas, thoracic surgeon, has joined the medical staff and will practice at both Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial Hospital.

Biswas has medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed a thoracic and cardiovascular residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.

Dr. Danielle T. Gerry, family practitioner, has joined UCH's Smaldore Family Practice on Old Emmorton Road in Bel Air. A Harford County native, she completed medical school at the University of Maryland and a family practice residency at Franklin Square Hospital.

She provides routine care in all aspects of family medicine.

Cancer programs receive $50,000

The Chesapeake Cancer Alliance recently contributed $50,000 toward its commitment to support the Upper Chesapeake Cancer LifeNet programs.

The alliance has donated $250,000 toward its $500,000 pledge to Cancer LifeNet.

The CCA also recently elected new officers for 2008-2010, effective immediately: Kitty Pickett, president; Laurie Manns-Adolph, vice president; Jeanne Stratmeyer, recording secretary; Sandra Guzewich, financial secretary; Melita Mazwell, corresponding secretary; and Debbie Heath, treasurer.
