Prosecutors said Jakes walked into PNC Bank in the 6200 block of Washington Blvd. wearing a hooded jacket, a baseball cap, a black curly-haired wig, a black backpack and dark gloves. According to his plea agreement, Jakes put his hands on the back of the neck of an employee, pushed her to the teller station and demanded money.

After getting the cash, prosecutors said, he pushed the employee to another teller and repeated the demand.

Police arrested Jakes a short time later after chasing his Ford pickup through Howard County at speeds exceeding 80 mph, prosecutors said.

Man sentenced for carjacking

A 24-year-old man accused of shooting an off-duty Baltimore police officer two years ago was sentenced yesterday to 30 years in prison on federal carjacking and gun charges, according to the Maryland U.S. attorney's office.

Collin Hawkins of the 6000 block of Moravia Park Drive still faces attempted murder and first-degree assault charges in Baltimore Circuit Court in the Dec. 5 shooting of Officer Momodu Gondo. City prosecutors said that trial is scheduled to begin today. Gondo was attacked just after midnight Dec. 5, 2006, as he got out of his car at his home in the 5700 block of The Alameda.

Authorities said the federal case stemmed from the shooting of the officer and another case in which Hawkins was arrested Nov. 22, 2006, in connection with an armed carjacking in the city. A federal jury convicted Hawkins of carjacking, use of a handgun in a crime of violence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

2 city shootings investigated

Baltimore police were seeking yesterday two men who were wounded Monday night in separate shootings in the city, authorities said.

A 39-year-old man was shot about 9:30 p.m., in the 500 block of Edgewood St. in Southwest Baltimore's Allendale neighborhood, according to city police. The victim was standing near a car talking to another man when he was shot once in the left leg, police said. Paramedics took him to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

Earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot shortly before 9 p.m. in the 800 block of N. Collington Ave., in East Baltimore's Middle East neighborhood, police said. Officers received a report of gunfire and arrived at the scene to find a man who had been shot several times, police said.

Paramedics took the man to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition, police said. Police were investigating both cases and are seeking information about the suspects.
