Arthritis Walk includes contests

The Arthritis Foundation Southern Maryland Branch will hold its 15th annual Annapolis Arthritis Walk from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Quiet Waters Park Concert Pavilion. The walk highlights children and pets at a "Kids Get Arthritis & Dogs Too!" medal of courage ceremony. There will be raffle prizes, face painting, arts and crafts, and a magician for the kids. "Best Dressed Pet" and "Owner-Pet Look Alike" contests will be held. Grocer offers events for health weekend

Good Health Weekend Safeway, 1781 Forest Drive in Annapolis, with the county Department of Health, will host a "Good Food for Good Health Weekend," which encourages shoppers to select nutritious low-fat, high-fiber foods, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. 410-222-7979 or www.aahealth.org.

Topics include healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco use prevention and cessation, sun safety, injury prevention, teen health and communicating with teens. All of the materials, including educational tools such as healthy eating coloring sheets and an interactive teen anti-smoking program, can be downloaded. Midwifery center names director

Bay Area Midwifery Center, a state-licensed and nationally accredited maternal services organization affiliated with Anne Arundel Medical Center, has appointed Jennifer Caniglio as its director.

She takes over for Judith E. Parsley, who founded Bay Area Midwifery in 1986 and recently retired. A resident of Maryland's Eastern Shore, Caniglio has worked with Bay Area Midwifery for several years.

Caniglio began her nursing career at the University of Maryland before moving to Chestertown River Hospital Center on Maryland's Eastern Shore in 1995. She completed a midwifery program at the Midwifery Institute at Philadelphia University.

Bay Area staff assists in the births of more than 60 babies a year at the facility with 240 more taking place at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
