Restaurant group names new chief

Paul P. Hartgen of Las Vagas has been named president and chief executive officer of the Columbia-based Restaurant Association of Maryland.

He has been president and CEO of the Nevada Restaurant Association and has held the same positions with the New Hampshire Lodging & Restaurant Association. He is also president of the International Society of Restaurant Association Executives and an industry representative to the board of directors of the National Restaurant Association.

The Restaurant Association of Maryland has been managed since December by Marshall Weston Jr., executive vice president of the Maryland Hospitality Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works collaboratively with RAM.

Edcuation volunteers honored

Jean Evansmore, a Council of Elders volunteer at Marriotts Ridge High School has been recognized with a Friends of Education Award at a meeting of the Howard County Board of Education last month. Also honored were Colleen Terpos, a parent volunteer at Northfield Elementary School, and Don Bard of the Lazarus Foundation.

The Friends of Education Lifetime Achievement Award has been awarded posthumously to Natalie Woodson, a lifelong advocate of education.

The award was established by the board to show appreciation to volunteers who have made exemplary contributions to the school system's mission of excellence in teaching and learning.
