Softball team advances to 2nd round in 4A North

Brittany Walter and Mollie Coats combined to throw a five-inning shutout as No. 14 C. Milton Wright beat host Southwestern, 18-0, yesterday in a Class 4A North regional first-round softball game.

Coats relieved Walter in the second inning, when the Mustangs (11-8) scored 11 runs.

Sarah Morrill hit for the cycle, including two doubles. Angelica Appold had a double and a home run.

Howard 6, Meade 0 -- Left-hander Alison Seeley (5-7) pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as the visiting Lions (8-11) beat the Mustangs (2-16) in a 3A East regional first-round game. Howard will face Atholton in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Monday.

Girls lacrosse

Hereford 14, Bel Air 12 -- Ellen Halle had five goals and Jackie Lamonica had three goals and four assists to power the host Bulls (7-9) past the Bobcats in 3A-2A North action. Hereford did not lead by more than two goals. The Bulls will face host Fallston in the quarterfinals at noon tomorrow.

St. Vincent Pallotti 15, Catholic 10 -- Michelle Moore and Carly Van Zanten each scored five goals to power the visiting Panthers (13-4) past the Cubs (13-4) in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference semifinal. Pallotti advances to face Lutheran in the final at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Paul's School for Girls. Olivia Baker led Catholic with four goals.

North Harford 20, Milford Mill 1 -- Rhiannon Coogle and Julia Heaps each had hat tricks to power the visiting Hawks (8-7) past the Millers (3-8) in a first-round 3A-2A North regional game. North Harford will meet Dundalk in the quarterfinals at noon tomorrow.
