Library seeking help from students

The Howard County Library is seeking students 13 and older to assist library staff members with summer reading clubs for children, craft programs and other tasks.

Students who are interested must attend a training session and complete an application before the session.

One-hour training sessions are scheduled:

11 a.m. May 17 and 7 p.m. May 29 at the Miller branch, 410-313-1950.

7 p.m. May 27 at the central library, 410-313-7860.

2 p.m. May 31 and 7 p.m. June 16 at the Elkridge library, 410-313-5088.

2 p.m. May 31 and 7 p.m. June 3 at the Glenwood library, 410-313-5577.

7 p.m. June 4 and 11 a.m. June 14 at the east Columbia library, 410-313-7700.

4 p.m. June 5 at the Savage library, 410-880-5980.

Neighbor Ride's open house is today

Neighbor Ride will celebrate its recent move to 8950 Route 108, Suite 115, Columbia, with an open house from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

A volunteer-based nonprofit organization dedicated to decreasing isolation and improving the quality of life for older county residents, Neighbor Ride provides reasonably priced, reliable supplemental transportation for health care appointments; volunteering; religious, cultural and social activities; and other personal needs for people ages 60 and older.

Orientation for prospective volunteers will be held at noon today and 7 p.m. May 14.

Wine in the Woods needs assistance

The county Department of Recreation and Parks is accepting applications from volunteers ages 21 and older for its 16th Wine in the Woods Festival, to be held May 17-18 at Symphony Woods in Columbia.

In exchange for working a 3 1/2 -hour shift, volunteers will receive an admission ticket redeemable either day of the festival. Shifts are available from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

An orientation for new volunteers will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 14 at Recreation and Parks headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

Office on Aging seeks help at event

Volunteers are needed to help with greeting, seating and serving at the county Office on Aging's "Older Americans Day Goes Caribbean" event May 14 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville.
