Mental health seminar planned

In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Howard County school system's Office of Student Services will present a seminar for parents and caregivers of children with behavioral, social and emotional concerns, "Mom, Dad, I Need Help!"

The program on biologically based brain disorders - ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and others - will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Homewood School, 10914 Route 108, Ellicott City.

Speakers are to include Susan Helsel, director of NAMI-Howard County (the Howard County affiliate of National Alliance on Mental Illness) and parents.

Medicare class set for seniors

The Howard County Department of Citizen Services' Office on Aging will present "Medicare 101: What You Can Expect from Medicare - The Basics" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia.

The workshop will review how Medicare works, how to enroll, the benefits and the role of supplemental health insurance.

Admission is free. The program is sponsored by the Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program.
