Madelene L. Doyle, 77

Accountant, Orioles fan

April 29, 2008

Madelene Lee Doyle, a retired certified public accountant and longtime Orioles fan, died of meningitis April 22 at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Cockeysville resident was 77.

Born in Baltimore and raised on Highland Avenue, Miss Doyle was a 1949 graduate of Patterson Park High School. In 1970, she earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore.

She worked for a Baltimore trucking company before taking a job in 1964 with Standard Lime & Stone Co., which later became a division of Martin Marietta Corp. She retired in 1990.

A lifelong baseball fan, she had learned the intricacies of the game from her father, a diehard Washington Senators fan, said W. Walter Appel, a longtime friend and personal representative.

"That gal could tell you more stats about the Orioles. She knew baseball better than Casey Stengel," Mr. Appel said.

Miss Doyle was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Timonium Road, Timonium, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.

There are no survivors.
