Cecil College offers state boating course

Cecil College will offer a Maryland Basic Boating Course, suitable for ages 10 and older, beginning this week.

The three-day class will run 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and May 13 to May 15, May 27 to May 29, June 10 to June 12 and June 24 to June 26.

Tuition is $40 and the course fee is $15. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult who also is registered for the course.

The course is approved by the Department of Natural Resources . All people born after July 1, 1972, are required to have certification prior to operating numbered and documented vessels in Maryland waters.

Suggestions sought for name of school

The Harford County Board of Education is seeking suggestions from the community for naming the new elementary school being built off Red Pump Road near Vale Road, north of Bel Air.

The school is expected to open in the fall of 2010.

Suggested names should be sent to the school superintendent at Harford County Public Schools, A. A. Roberty Building, 102 S. Hickory Ave., Bel Air, Md. 21014. Submissions may also be turned in at school board meetings.

The board intends to name the new school at its June 23 meeting.

After-prom party at C. M. Wright

The C. Milton Wright graduation committee is planning to hold an after-prom party for graduating seniors this spring.

This new event will be in addition to the graduation cruise normally held after graduation. The party will be patterned after other schools' drug- and alcohol-free parties.

A car from Jones Junction in Bel Air will be given away at the party. Donations for door prizes and other events are needed.

Apply now for place in nursery school

Forest Hill Nursery School is accepting applications for its 3- and 4-year-old programs for the 2008-2009 school year.

Programs are two days a week for 3-year-olds and three days a week for 4-year-olds.

Teachers have degrees and are licensed by the state.
