NAMI walkathon is set for May 3

The 2008 Maryland NAMIWalks For the Mind of America walkathon will be held at 11 a.m. May 3 at Centennial Park in Ellicott City. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

There is no fee to participate, but walkers are encouraged to collect donations from family members, friends, co-workers and business associates.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) offers support, education, research and advocacy programs for the mentally ill in Maryland.

Howard General to hold jewelry sale

The Howard County General Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary will hold a jewelry sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 and 8 in the hospital's cafeteria, 5755 Cedar Lane, Columbia.

Gold and sterling silver jewelry will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the hospital's expansion program.

Red Cross benefit ride tomorrow

The American Red Cross will present its first "Ride for the Red" statewide motorcycle rally tomorrow to raise money for the Disaster Relief Fund.

The ride will begin at 6:30 a.m. in Salisbury and will finish at Rocky Gap State Park at 4:30 p.m. Participants can ride the entire route or a segment.

A donation of $30 is requested for the full day of riding. For registration and route information: www.redcross-cmd.org.
