Blast!

The lowdown -- Blast! mixes drum-line style and brass with choreographed movement and lighting to produce its half-marching band, half-musical shows. Originally the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps, James Mason reinvented the group as Blast! and went on to win Emmy and Tony awards. The Lyric Opera House hosts this hybrid show tomorrow and Saturday.

The lowdown -- Begun in 1987, the Maryland State Boychoir has performed at the White House and as far away as Germany. The 150 choristers perform their Spring Concert on Saturday at the new Maryland Sate Boychoir Center for the Arts.

The lowdown -- On their television show, the Backyardigans take children on musical adventures by using their limitless imaginations. In their touring show "The Tale of the Mighty Knights!" at the Hippodrome Theatre, the five friends tell the story of a quest that crosses paths with dragons, fairies and kings.
