Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades are invited to participate in an archaeology dig at the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3.
Participants can learn how archaeologists reconstruct the past through artifacts.
Bring a bag lunch; snacks and drinks will be provided.
The cost is $30 for parent and child.

Graduates -- Army Reserve Pvt. Michael B. Sprague, son of Ken Sprague of Ellicott City and Susan Sprague of Gaithersburg, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is a 2006 graduate of Wilde Lake High School.
Reports for duty -- Navy Fireman Recruit Christopher A. Smith, son of Janine R. and Brent A. Smith of Elkridge, recently reported for duty aboard the submarine USS Dallas, home-ported in Groton, Conn. He is a 2007 graduate of Long Reach High School.

Pre-submission meeting -- The Greater Elkridge Community Association urges its members to attend a pre-submission meeting for Riverwatch, a condominium project of 95 units and retail space projected for 5 acres on Furnace Road. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Melville Chapel United Methodist Church, 5660 Furnace Avenue, Elkridge.
Help with marketing -- Howard Community College invites the community to attend an event similar to NBC's Apprentice television program, in which students from adjunct instructor Barbara Surran's Principles of Marketing class will present marketing plans to the Ellicott City Fire Department. The winning student group will be selected by a panel of judges, and the Fire Department will receive a copy of each group's marketing plan for possible use at the station. The event will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Room 400 of The Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

Free bridge, other games -- The Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center is offering free drop-in bridge and pinochle and favorite table games. A bridge group meets from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; Pinochle meets from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Those who attend are invited to bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea and treats will be provided. Donations are accepted for the snack fund.
