Sparrow House to hold annual walk

The administrators of Sparrow House Maternity Home in Bel Air will hold the seventh annual Walk for Life at 2 p.m. today at Heavenly Waters Park, the Ma & Pa Trail, 702 N. Tollgate Road.

A companion walk will be held at Christ the King Church, 1102 Hart Road, Towson.

Sparrow House is a nonprofit organization for unmarried pregnant girls or young women in a crisis pregnancy situation. The ministry provides a temporary residential family setting during the pregnancy.

The Walk for Life is a 2-mile walk/run. Participants can either donate to Sparrow House or collect pledges for running/walking. Prizes will be given for raising certain amounts.

Sparrow House accepts donations and is in need of volunteers to help with labor coaching, transportation, respite care, crafts and other areas.

Free medical screenings planned

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink's Medical Mobile Van will be in the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's parking lot M, MacPhail and Tollgate roads, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Free blood pressure, sleep disorder and body fat analysis screenings will be offered.

Also available are: cholesterol screenings for $10; osteoporosis screenings for $15; and cardiac risk assessments for $20 (cash or check only).

Osteoporosis screenings require a scan of the bare foot.

Free foot screenings are also available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and free screenings for head, neck and oral cancer from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 30 and 9 a.m. to noon May 3. Registration is requested.

Women's expo set for May 10

Exclusively For Women, an expo featuring products and women services will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 10 at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.

About 70 vendors will offer an array of products and services with interactive presentations.

Guest speakers and seminars on various topics will be offered throughout the day.

The first 1,500 attendees will receive an event bag. All attendees can enter a drawing for two prizes: a seven-night all-inclusive Apple Vacation for two to either Cancun or Punta Cana, or a nine-night Caribbean cruise for two.

Event tickets are $10, available at www.ticketmaster.com or at various businesses countywide. A $2 discount is available on tickets purchased before May 1.

Older Americans Month event

Upper Chesapeake Health will celebrate Older Americans Month in May with a dinner lecture series focusing on senior issues.

All lectures begin at 5 p.m. in the Chesapeake Conference Center at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. The cost is $5 per session and includes dinner. Reservations are required at 800-515-0044.

May 14: Medicare -- What's New and What Do All Those Letters Mean?

May 21: Life Planning: Are You Ready For the Future? Topics include estate planning, new laws affecting retirees and advanced directives.

May 28: Some May Never Grow Up, But We All Grow Older. The topic is healthy aging in mind, body and spirit.

Office on Aging plans workshops

The Harford County Office on Aging is holding a series of workshops, "Living Well ... Take Charge of Your Health," from 9:30 a.m. to noon Fridays, April 25 to May 30, at the Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane.

The cost is $5.

The workshops are geared toward people with chronic conditions. Caregivers are welcome to attend the workshops.

Topics include how to manage symptoms, how to communicate with doctors, how to lessen frustration, how to fight fatigue, how to make daily tasks easier, and how to get more out of life.

Autism Awareness Night on April 29

Pathfinders and the Main Street Tower Restaurant in Bel Air will hold an Autism Awareness Night for families who have a member with autism to eat out together from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 29.

Pathfinders is a support group for families dealing with autism.

For Autism Night, the Main Street Tower will offer gluten- and casein-free menu items, reduced background music, a quiet area, and a staff trained in autism sensitivity.

Families wishing to attend Autism Night are requested to call ahead to the restaurant at 410-838-8007, and mention Pathfinders.
