Stars rest, Wizards lose

Redick, Magic win regular-season finale, 103-83

Kidd gets 100th triple double

April 17, 2008

J.J. Redick scored a career-high 18 points and Marcin Gortat had a career-high 12 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Orlando Magic to a 103-83 victory over the Washington Wizards last night in a meaningless regular-season finale for two playoff-bound teams.

Andray Blatche led visiting Washington with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Nick Young scored 14.

Both teams rested their stars. Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison didn't play for the Wizards.

Mavericks 111, Hornets 98 -- Jason Kidd had the 100th triple double of his career and sparked a 30-8 run that sent host Dallas past New Orleans and set up a first-round playoff showdown between the teams. Kidd had 27 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his first triple double since rejoining the Mavericks.

Nuggets 120, Grizzlies 111 -- Carmelo Anthony (Towson Catholic) scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in his first game since getting arrested on a DUI charge, and host Denver reached 50 wins for the first time in 20 years with a victory over Memphis.

Pacers 132, Knicks 123 -- Mike Dunleavy tied a career high with 36 points, and host Indiana beat New York, sending the host Knicks to a franchise record-tying 59th loss in what might have been Isiah Thomas' last game as their coach.

Heat 119, Hawks 99 -- If this was Pat Riley's final game, it was a victorious one. Jason Williams scored 17 points, Mark Blount and Daequan Cook each added 16 and Miami ended its disappointing season with a victory over visiting Atlanta.

Celtics 105, Nets 94 -- Second-stringer Leon Powe scored a career-high 27 points, adding 11 rebounds for his sixth career double double, and the Boston bench helped beat visiting New Jersey as the Celtics starters took it easy in their final tune-up before the playoffs.

Pistons 84, Cavaliers 74 -- LeBron James rested his back - and sat on his scoring title. The Cavaliers' All-Star forward spent the final game of the regular season in street clothes, resting up for the NBA playoffs and watching the Pistons' reserves outplay host Cleveland's bench players as Detroit won.

Bobcats 115, 76ers 109 -- Jason Richardson scored 29 points and host Charlotte recovered from blowing a big lead to beat Philadelphia, sending the 76ers to the playoffs on a four-game losing streak. The Bobcats blew a 23-point lead before rallying to end the season with a win.
