Linda Rittelmann has been named executive director and chief operating officer of Greater Baltimore Medical Associates, which is a group of more than 40 physician practices owned by Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Rittelmann, who will be in charge of staffing, billing, performance improvement and budgeting, has 17 years of executive health care experience in managed-care contracting, information-systems applications, cardiovascular and orthopedic program management, capital-project management, strategic planning and marketing.

She has held health care executive positions at Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.

The Baltimore County Medical Association has installed new officers for the 2008-2009 year. They include Dr. Ira D. Papel, president; Dr. Gary Pushkin, president-elect; Dr. Robert P. Roca, vice president; Dr. Richard T. Scholz, secretary; and Dr. Carol E. Ritter, treasurer.

Dr. Ambadas Pathak, the outgoing president, is now the chairman of the board of governors.

Before becoming president, Papel, a facial plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon), was co-chairman of the BCMA legislative committee, treasurer, secretary, vice president and president-elect.

Dr. Kathy J. Helzlsouer, director of prevention and research at Mercy Medical Center, recently received the NCI (National Cancer Institute) Award for outstanding service in recognition of leadership and scientific vision.

Helzlsouer, who joined Mercy in 2004, has an expertise in clinical epidemiology, cancer epidemiology and cancer prevention.

She serves on several committees, including the member advisory committee for the American Cancer Society's Nutrition Cohort study, on NCI's Physician Data Query cancer screening and prevention committee and on Duke University's Scientific Advisory Committee.
