The Week Ahead

April 16, 2008|By Mike Preston

No. 6 Johns Hopkins (4-5)

Coming up: @No. 10 Navy, Saturday, noon

Comment: The Blue Jays ended a five-game losing streak last week against Maryland, but they still have some issues to resolve. At least Hopkins enters the game with confidence.

No. 8 UMBC (8-3)

Coming up: vs. Hartford, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: UMBC is on a roll, having won seven straight. Junior attackman Ryan Smith is hot, having scored eight points in the Retrievers' last game. Hartford has to get a handle on Smith.

No. 10 Navy (9-3)

Coming up: vs. No. 6 Hopkins, Saturday, noon.

Comment: Navy needs to rebound after being upset by Army last weekend. The key for the Midshipmen will be winning faceoffs and slowing the Blue Jays' offense.

No. 11 Maryland (7-4)

Coming up: vs. Pennsylvania, Saturday, 1 p.m.

Comment: The Terps have scored only eight goals in their past two games. Look for coach Dave Cottle to make some changes, especially in the midfield, where he has gotten little production.

No. 12 Loyola (6-4)

Coming up: @Fairfield, Saturday, 3 p.m.

Comment: Loyola has to prove to itself that it can play consistently at a high level and handle the success that comes with it.

Towson (4-7)

Coming up: vs. Villanova, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Comment: The Tigers need to win to get into the conference tournament and have any shot at the NCAA tournament. The Tigers have been the victims of some bad luck, but good teams make their own luck.
