Spring frees us up to while away the day

Observations

April 16, 2008|By Rob Hiaasen | Rob Hiaasen,Sun Reporter

Mostly sunny. Finally. Highs in the upper 60s and 70s this week. Finally.

Spring. Finally.

Given the weather, you have certain inalienable rights this time of year, and those rights shall hereby be called "The Rights of Springs," and these rights are as follows:

You have the right to ...

Assemble midday at Mount Vernon Square for no apparent reason

Walk around the Inner Harbor and see Animal Balloon Guy

Take any walk

Call a friend you haven't talked to in two years

Imagine your first car, exactly how it looked and ran

Use your lunch hour to go to the SPCA and look at Lab mixes

Skip the haircut for a little while longer

You have the right to ...

Find your oldest T-shirt and wear it around the house

Go to the Senator Theatre and see the Stones' movie

Dream about boats ... or boat ads

Play golf in the morning

Or afternoon

See the Orioles and Yankees this weekend

You have the right to ...

Not get every single bit of work done every day of your life

Find a new favorite neighborhood bar

Take guitar lessons or yoga - no, guitar lessons

You have the right to ...

Wear short sleeves again

Open the windows again

Remove socks, slip on sandals

Because spring will be over soon enough

And you might change your mind about everything
