Three accidents tangle JFX traffic

Several people were taken to area hospitals after a series of accidents on the Jones Falls Expressway last night, two of which involved police, according to Baltimore police.

The first occurred about 7:20 p.m. on the northbound side of the expressway near the Guilford Avenue exit, said Baltimore police spokeswoman Nicole Monroe. The three-vehicle accident resulted in a taxi cab being turned onto its side, she said, shutting down the northbound side for a brief period. Some people were hospitalized, she said. The accident is under investigation.

An officer who was blocking the Interstate 83 entrance at President Street and Fallsway because of that accident was rear-ended, resulting in minor injuries, Monroe said.

Another police-involved, multiple-vehicle accident occurred just before 9 p.m. on the southbound side of the Expressway near the Cold Spring Lane exit, Monroe said. An on-duty officer was traveling south when the accident occurred. A number of people were taken to area hospitals, Monroe said, and the southbound side of the expressway was shut down for a period. The accident is under investigation, Monroe said.
