The Derby going Hollywood

April 12, 2008|By KEVIN VAN VALKENBURG

Now we've heard it all: Access Hollywood's Billy Bush will host "Access at the Kentucky Derby" during NBC's coverage of the Triple Crown race May 3. The hourlong special will include the "Kentucky Derby Red Carpet Show," and it will take an inside look at the fashion, famous parties and celebrities at the event.

We have several questions. Why is Billy Bush hosting anything? He's like the little brother of Carson Daly and Ryan Seacrest. How this trio got on the air and has been able to stay there is a mystery. We digress.

We can't wait for Bush to ask the first celebrity, "Who designed your hat?" This is just another in a slew of bad ideas to bring together sports and entertainment. We're sure everyone will be dressed marvelously and sipping mint juleps.

Next thing you know, there will be a concert in the middle of the day's race card. We have a few thoughts on some good acts for Derby Day - Trick Pony opening for Toby Keith, who will naturally sing "Beer For My Horses."

But the burning question: Do the horses get to walk the red carpet?
