Acquisitions

Macfadden & Associates Inc., a Silver Spring-based professional services company, acquired engineering and information support services firm Systems Integration Group of Lanham. SIG will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Accounting and consulting firm Clifton Gunderson LLP acquired the Arlington, Va.-based federal practice of UHY LLP.

Contracts

Hughes Network Systems LLC, with headquarters in Germantown, received $2.6 million in orders from the Defense Information Systems Agency and other participating government agencies to provide digital compressed satellite services for the Government Education and Training Network.

Kudos

The Baltimore County Department of Social Services has recognized the pro bono work of the attorneys of the Baltimore office of Hogan & Hartson LLP on behalf of the new staff guide, Kinship Care Resource Manual.

New clients

Stanton Communications has been signed by the Archdiocese of New York to provide media counsel and planning for the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to New York next week. Also added as clients were ICO Global Communications, a satellite communications firm; Fourth & Goal, an organization addressing retired NFL player pension and disability issues; and Morgan Franklin, a McLean, Va.-based professional services company.

Robert T. Cawley, president of Baltimore-based insurance brokerage RCM&D, has been named to a seat on the board of Assurex Global, an international partnership of 117 independent brokers.
