Church to offer bereavement classes

The Stephen Ministry of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City will offer "Journeying Through Grief," a series of bereavement care sessions, May 13 through June 10 at the church, 3604 Chatham Road.

The program, open to anyone who has experienced a loss by death, divorce or other circumstances, will offer insights and tools to cope with the intense feelings of sadness and loss.

The sessions will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays.

Admission is free. There is a $10 charge for a set of four books on the grieving process by Kenneth C. Haugk, executive director of Stephen Ministries.

Locust church seeks spring fair vendors

Locust United Methodist Church, 8105 Martin Road, Columbia, is seeking vendors for its Community Spring Fair, to be held May 3. The deadline to register is April 20.

Program aims to inspire women

The Bon Secours Spiritual Center, 1525 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, will offer "God is Trying to Tell You Something," a program designed to inspire women to recognize their life's vision and purpose, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The cost is $50 and includes lunch.

A program focused on the mystery of God's continuing presence in all of life -- "Christ is Risen! G-d is Here! Let Us Rejoice!" -- will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

St. Anthony Shrine plans Healing Mass

The Shrine of St. Anthony, 12290 Folly Quarter Road, Ellicott City, will offer a Healing Mass, with prayer for restored health for those who are sick in mind, body and spirit, at 3 p.m. April 20, May 18 and June 15.

A Healing Mass with Benediction will be offered at 3 p.m. April 27, May 25 and June 29. Friday Healing Masses are to be offered at 7:30 p.m. May 2 and June 6.

The Sacrament of Penance is available from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays, today and April 18 and 25, and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, next week and April 23 and 30.

Chinese summer camp is planned

Registration is open for Bethany United Methodist Church's "Camp China 2008," a camp for children ages 4 to 11 that offers a chance to learn Chinese language and culture through camp activities.

Activities are to include paper-folding and cutting, Chinese chess, brush-writing, and traditional songs, dance and games.

The camp will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 to Aug. 15 at the church, 2875 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City.

Extended morning care begins at 8 a.m.; afternoon care from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. is available. The cost is $420; $390 for each sibling, and $100 for extended care. The deadline to register is May 15.

Spiritual group meets Sundays

Journeys Community, a nontraditional spiritual group, meets at 10 a.m. Sundays in the second-floor auditorium of Vantage House, 5400 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, to explore spirituality using music, video, reflection and meditation.

This week, the group will explore how poetry, as a spiritual expression, touches our lives. Everyone is welcome.

Journeys Community will hold a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 19 at the Kittamaqundi Community Church parking lot (Oliver's Carriage House), 5400 Leaf Treader Way (across from Vantage House). The rain date is April 26.

Gan Israel camp registration open

Gan Israel Day Camp, 770 Howes Lane, Columbia, is accepting registration for its four-week summer sessions, to be held June 23 through July 18. Groups are available for boys ages 2 to 8, and girls ages 2 to 12.

The camps will offer sports, swimming, crafts, music, day trips and activities emphasizing Jewish traditions and history. Weekly programs and part-day options are available for preschoolers.

The cost is $160 for a full weekly session; $600 for four weeks.
