Dr. Michelle A. Fritsch has been appointed chair of pharmacy practice at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland's new School of Pharmacy.

Fritsch comes to the college from Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C., where she works as a clinical pharmacy specialist and medication-assistance program director. She will assume her new duties this month.

Fritsch, who is an adjunct associate professor in the physical therapy department at Wingate School of Pharmacy, Elon University and Baylor University, has also taught at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and Campbell University.

She earned her doctorate in pharmacy from Purdue University and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Healthcare Leadership Award and the Triad Business Journal Health Care Hero Award.

The new School of Pharmacy will open in 2009, and it will be the first such school to open at a women's college in the U.S.

Nurse Nancy Tucker, who is the deputy director of health information and promotion division at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, received a Nursing Leadership Scholarship to attend the Healthcare Managers Leadership Institute.

Tucker, who participated in a six-day training that ended this month and was sponsored by the Maryland Hospital Association, was trained in leadership development, team building and effective organizational change.

Tucker has worked for the department for 14 years and oversees the LifeScreen Colorectal Cancer Screening Program, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program and the Women, Infants and Children Program.
