Man sentenced for armed robbery

A 34-year-old Baltimore man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the armed robbery of a Carney restaurant last year.

Shakime D. Jackson was sentenced after pleading guilty Monday to two counts of armed robbery in the May 2 incident at Bowman Restaurant and Pub on Harford Road. During the robbery, three employees were locked in a walk-in refrigerator by two men armed with a shotgun and a knife.

Another man charged in the robbery, Nathaniel Green, 25, pleaded guilty in December to robbing his former co-workers at gunpoint and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Police seek sex offender

County police said yesterday they are looking for a convicted sex offender who failed to register with Maryland's Sex Offender Registry.

The man, James Edward Hensley, 32, is believed to frequent the eastern areas of Baltimore County. Police said he goes by the nickname "Pooh Bear." He was convicted in 2001 of second-degree rape of a child in 1997, police said.

Hairston to speak in Lutherville

Schools Superintendent Joe A. Hairston will speak tomorrow about education in the county as part of a lecture series sponsored by the Baltimore County League of Women Voters.

The event will take place at Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1710 Dulaney Valley Road, Lutherville, and will begin at 6:45 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception.

Admission is $10 at the door. Students are admitted free.
